You can apparently still access the old standalone installer for 1.27 from the Blizzard website if you know the URL (I haven't tried it). If you have the original RoC and TFT CDs, install both of those.If you have ever downloaded a standalone installer for one of these versions, install that.Note that older saved games are incompatible. 1.29: Proper widescreen support now supports 24 players.1.28.3: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne are now combined into a single executable, with a switcher button in the menu.1.28: Saved game location moved from the game directory to your app data directory.1.21b: CD is no longer required to play.Installed and updated through the client. Other than the launcher, they have no DRM. ![]() They auto-update at launch and there is no way to install or patch to them any more. All of these versions install and update themselves through a launcher app (not the client). These versions auto-update when connecting to. exe installers that you could download from the Blizzard website, if you legally owned the game, to install the game without connecting to a server. Also each of these, from a certain point onwards (1.21b?) had stand-alone. ![]() exes that can patch the game without connecting to a server. All of these versions have freely available patch.
